This small informal group started in 2013 and meets in members’ homes, without an external teacher, to speak German. Most participants have sufficient knowledge to be able to express their views in German, having either studied to degree level or spent time in Germany (or Austria) for other reasons. However, many of us are also very ‘rusty’ and do need frequent reference to dictionaries and prompting from each other.

Topics are occasionally chosen in advance, but we also indulge in general ‘chatter’ – a coffee morning in German. We also endeavour to arrange an informal evening meal at least once a year, accompanied by a friendly native German.

There are still places available for anyone with sufficient knowledge of the language, wishing to practise using it in a friendly informal setting.

Venue

Meetings are held fortnightly at 10.30am on Wednesday mornings in a member’s home, but this is flexible.

Costs

We are not using a professional tutor, just self help. So there is no charge.
