Walking Groups
Members are welcome to join the most appropriate group, subject to any restriction on numbers. There is a Risk Assessment Checklist for use by walk leaders as they plan their walks.
Your Group Leader might keep your ICE (In Case of Emergency) details, but you should not necessarily rely on this. You should carry your ICE card with you on all U3A walks so that someone can be contacted on your behalf if it becomes necessary.
Most years, there is also a walking holiday arranged during the summer months. See the Holidays page for further details.
Walking Group 1
This group focuses on circular walks of 4-5 miles, and members take it in turns to plan the route, carry out a risk assessment and lead the walk. We usually end at a suitable pub or restaurant for lunch. The starting point is announced in advance to group members.

Malcolm White on 01844 291677 or mwhiterudds@gmail.com
Venue
Walks take place on the third Tuesday of each month, typically starting at 10.00am. Each walk and lunch arrangements are planned and communicated to group members, who are encouraged to car share whenever convenient.
Costs
Walkers pay for their own refreshments at the pub or restaurant and share transport costs.
Walking Group 2
The Friday walking group normally meets on the 3rd Friday of each month. Walks are usually about 5 to 6 miles long, but may sometimes be a little longer. Many walks are in the Chilterns, so some steep ascents and descents can be expected. However, other local areas are also visited. Walks generally start at 10.00 a.m. and usually finish with a pub lunch at about 1.00 p.m. Regular walkers take turns to lead the walks. Currently the group has a small number of vacancies for new members.

Longer Distance Walking Group
This group is for longer distance walkers seeking more challenge, and over recent years has focused on walking sequential linear routes of around 9 to 11 miles on established regional and national routes within relatively easy reach of Haddenham. These have included the Ridgeway, the Thames Path and the Chiltern Way. Members take it in turns to organise and lead walks. We always try to plan for a lunchtime break at a suitable pub or restaurant. Private minibus transport to and from each walk is generally used and this limits the walk size to 16, unless supplementary arrangements can be made. However, at present (summer 2023) member numbers are down leading to spare seats on the minibus. If anyone would like to consider joining our group, do please contact Neil, as below.
Group Leader
Neil Dury on 07940 576088 or 01844 291809 or neil.dury@btinternet.com
Venue
Walks are usually on the last Thursday of each month, except December, meeting at Haddenham Village Hall, Banks Park HP17 8EE around 9.00am. Walks along a given route are planned as a project in advance and managed by volunteer members. We typically allow 5 to 6 hours plus lunch stop.
Costs
Minibus hire costs are shared and walkers are responsible for their own refreshments.
The 68 mile Oxfordshire Way was completed late 2021 and the 87 mile Ridgeway (west to east) in February 2023. The group is currently enjoying ad hoc walks in the more local Chilterns and considering future projects.
